A Big Enough Umbrella | Wingate Studio
July 7 ‒ August 17, 2016
Planthouse is pleased to present our summer print show A Big Enough Umbrella, featuring work created at the legendary Wingate Studio.
A Big Enough Umbrella will feature works by Sebastian Black, Louise Bourgeois, Sascha Braunig, Robin Cameron, Walton Ford, Gregory Gillespie, Xylor Jane, Jill Moser, Sara Greenberger Rafferty, Chuck Webster, Cary Smith, and Roger White.
Since its founding in 1985 by Master Printer Peter Pettengill, Wingate Studio has provided an artistic haven for contemporary artists on an idyllic 55 acre-farm in the Connecticut River Valley. Specializing in intaglio etching, the Studio works in collaboration with a diverse array of artists producing and publishing prints, books, and special projects. The Studio provides invited artists shelter in a classic New England barn and farm fresh meals for sustenance. It operates as a kind of experiential umbrella, nurturing the body and spirit while facilitating the alchemical processes of printmaking. In its many collaborations, Wingate uniquely fosters exploration and innovation that transcends the results of traditional printmaking.
Prints published and printed at Wingate Studio are in the collections of the Davison Art Center, Hood Museum of Art, Library of Congress, MoMA, Smith College Museum of Art, Yale University Art Gallery, Whitney Museum of American Art, and others.
