Laurie Heller Marcus studied at the Arts Students League with the abstract painter Agnes Hart (1912-1979) as a child. She later majored in art and anthropology at the University of New Hampshire and attended the New York Studio School for Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture (1976-79).

At Planthouse (2022-2023), her work was included in Into this World, curated by Nina Jordan. For National Poetry Month, 2021, Jason McCoy Gallery featured her art, poetry, and poetry films in LAURIE HELLER MARCUS: THE WIND ORDERS THE WORD,  A Festival of Poetry Films and an Exhibition of Recent Paintings and Works on Paper, curated by Stephanie Buhman. Her work was also included in a group exhibition, Spring is Like a Perhaps Hand (Jason McCoy Gallery, 2022). Her films SLINGS & ARROWS and DELILAH were featured on Dreamers Welcome TV. Her work has been presented in a variety of exhibitions, including projects curated by Stephanie Buhman, Sean Scully, Bill Jenson, Michael Brenson, Richard Flood, Richard Shaw, Dan Cameron, Glenn Goldberg, Malado Baldwin, Maia Ibar, Jeannie Weissglass, and David Humphrey. In 2023, she was selected by curator Chogakate Kazarian to receive a Mercedes Matter Award. She lives in New York City.
